  • Establishment of Idlib Health Directorate

Idlib Health Directorate was established on 1st of May 2013 as an accumulation of efforts of medical staff members who sided with their community ever since the beginning of the Syrian Revolution that started on 18th March 2011. The aim was to fill the gap in medical sector after government medical institutions stopped providing medical services in opposition-held areas. As the area controlled by opposition forces was larger and larger, and more health facilities decided to work with Idlib Health Directorate. This coincided with the appearance of diseases that had been extinct like Polio. It worth mentioning that the recent Polio case was recorded in 1998. Medical activities moved from spontaneity to organization, from providing some medical services to constructing an integrated health system. The ultimate aim was to establish a governmental institution that can be an example and a success story that can be repeated in other sectors after all government institutions collapsed.

  • Vision

Attaining a comprehensive and integrated health care with high quality and available to all those in need.

  • Message

Idlib Health Directorate works hard to avail protective health care, treatment and medical training and rehabilitation for communities according to the national criteria. Securing vocational safety and security during all medical and non-medical procedures in health facilities is another objective of Idlib Health Directorate.

For the sake of attaining its objectives, Idlib Health Directorate adheres to the eight principles of Governance:

    6. Efficiency and proficiency
    7. Dominance of law
  • Idlib Health Directorate and Governance

IHD seeks to attain these objectives through effective participation by both public and private sectors, civil society represented by institutions and individuals. IHD considers itself as an integral part of a civil alliance that seeks legitimacy through provision of services to the society in a way that enables adherence to a set of values embodied by freedom and justice.
